I was commissioned to design and art direct Cairns Regional Council‘s first holistic sustainable living program, ‘Green Thumb – Beyond the Garden Path’. Initiated by Council’s Environment, Water and Waste team at the time, the purpose for the campaign was to bring awareness to community environment and sustainability practices in the region and included a number of different programs to highlight sustainable living.
The brief insisted a distinctive Cairns streetscape graphic be designed, visually depicting the program elements but importantly, showing distinct features of the Cairns region such as the local mountain terrain, flora and fauna, and a Queenslander house. I based the mountain silhouettes on the actual view facing North West from Edge Hill looking through to Redlynch Valley. The streetscape took a number of hours to perfect to ensure there was a balance in composition, colour levels, layers and elements. An overarching logo was designed with additional support logos designed to cover each of the 6 programs.
